Dear Trick or Treat Author,

Thank you for writing something for me! I love this time of year and the holidays it brings. Cool weather approaching, winter approaching, and all the cozy and creepy things. ... I didn't mean for that to rhyme, but we'll go with it. Anyway, I have a pretty standard set of likes/dislikes included in my letter that I include in almost all of them. Then, I'll give you some specific prompts and any specific likes/dislikes for each fandom request.

AO3: [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

For all fandoms, I have selected nominated character tags for focal characters I'd like to see, but I'm happy with any and all combinations of supporting characters. If you would like to do ship-fic, I will include a list of the ships I'd like to see. However, I am equally happy with gen or something in-between. I am happy with all ratings unless noted for a specific prompt. If I indicate that I'd like to have smutty fic, I prefer to let the characters dictate their own kinks, and I'm pretty game for anything which doesn't involve scat or any of my other DNWs. With regard to violence, I am happy to see it included, particularly on the level it might be in canon, but especially in fandoms that are especially violent I would prefer fics that didn't focus on a play-by-play of especially gruesome things, even if they are included within a plot.

Now, onto fandom specifics. This letter is so long, you may want to use CTRL + F!

Dear FemSlashEx Author,

Thank you for writing something for me! I am [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe. I really look forward to participating in this exchange. Included in this letter are my likes, dislikes, and some individual prompts and clarifications. Generally, unless I explicitly say that I don't want something, I am happy for fic to go there, as long as there is a silver lining at the end. Happy slice-of-life to dark fic and survival in the trenches, I'm excited to read it!

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

I'm comfortable with any rating of fic, but I don't want graphic representations of underage sexuality. Fade-to-black or be subtle if characters are underage, or write a fic where they are of age, please, should you choose to include sexuality. If you do include sexuality, I prefer to let the characters and context dictate kinks, rather than me. Other than something that touches on my dislikes or nonsexual bodily fluids, I'm game.

Dear FGE Author,

Thank you for writing something for me! This exchange is really exciting; heaven knows I often go searching in fanfiction tags for things that simply don't exist. I'm glad that this will us an opportunity to fix some of that. I've included my general likes, dislikes, and then some fandom specific prompts.

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

I'm comfortable with any rating of fic.

You can CTRL+F for what you're looking for; any redundancy is for people who are just looking for one specific prompt.

Dear DarkestNight Author,

Thank you for writing something for me! This is my second year participating in this exchange, and I have been looking forward to it all year. I love fics where characters go through hell but come out, if not unscathed, at least with a tiny vestige of home. I don't like abject tragedy, but I can handle meaningful tragedy and, in fact, think I love it. I have made this letter as clear as I can, but it's a slightly different format than my usual. Contact the mod if you need any clarification.

As always, prompts are suggestions, not binding. I really hope you have fun writing your story!

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

Additional for this Exchange: Tropes from the Optional Tags I would prefer NOT to see, unless otherwise mentioned, not quite covered by the above: Permanent Break-Ups, Explicit Underage*, ABO, any sexual acts involving non-sexual body fluids with the exception of very minor injury due to rough sex

* Some characters requested in this exchange (Madoka and ATLA) are under the age of consent. For them, you've got two options: go PG-13 on the sex references or write a story where they have been aged up due to progression of time or something like that. I'd probably slightly prefer the former for Madoka and the latter for ATLA, BUT it is a very slight preference. Obviously, I've asked for things where you don't have to include sex at all, but just if you wanted to.

I've requested a couple of fandoms twice to separate out tag requests, but sometimes it was just only one tag that only applied to one, so I had to be a tiny bit redundant. To make this less confusing, I'll sort of scaffold it downward, so look for subheadings for the fandom as a whole.

Dear Crossovering Author,

Thank you for writing something for me! As I have noted on the sign-up form, my character tag requests are just characters that I think about a lot independently. For each of the fandoms I have requested, there aren't any primary characters that I would dislike receiving a fic about, so if you don't feel the character tags, feel free to disregard and follow your heart.

I am comfortable with fics of any rating but prefer no porn-without-plot. I do not want underage sexuality but flirting and kissing teen stuff is fine. Writing fics when younger characters are a bit older is also fine. I'll continue with a few other likes and dislikes, then I will go to fandom specifics. Please feel free to deviate from the prompts if you are inspired to go in another direction.

Dear GenEx author,

Thank you for writing something for me! I have enjoyed this exchange for a couple of years, and I always find that it's much easier to write gen than I remember. I think that, even when I participate in shippy exchanges, a lot of my requests could be read as gen if one really wanted to. What I love in fanfiction, really, is the development of relationships and the exploration and resolution of conflict. It doesn't really matter how characters love each other, as long as they do. And I also love reading about characters who, maybe, couldn't really be said to love each other but who are important in one another's lives no less. My likes and dislikes are slightly adapted from my usual copy-paste to help them illuminate my gen-specific likes more, but you can see my other letters if, for some reason, you want to. Please take my prompts as helpful suggestions and not demands. If you have an idea, please go with it, whether or not it meets one of my prompts or not; as long as we stay away from my very short dislikes list, I'll be very happy with whatever you give me!

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, explicit gore, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, emotional ambiguity, friendly enemies, belligerent friendships, found families, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing (even nonromantic/sexy kind), loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

Dear Press Start author,

Thank you for writing something for me! This exchange is a new challenge for me. I am a fixation-game-player rather than someone who plays a ton of games. The games I do play I am really captivated with, but I think this was probably the first year I have had enough game fandoms to sign up for this exchange and I'm excited. That means the bar is so low for you that it barely exists, as far as pleasing me, as long as you abide by my dislikes. I hope you have fun with it! If you have something that leaps into your mind that doesn't really go with my prompts, feel free.

Characters/Groups Requested:

  • Chell & Doug Rattmann

  • Chell/Wheatley

  • Chell

For Chell & Doug, I would like either an unlikely reunion fic, a story about Chell's feelings about her unseen friend, or something where they are kind of communicating through a space-time anomaly. It would be neat if Doug was already dead by the time Chell is awakened, but they are still able to communicate because of some kind of weird space-time thing. Whether or not it ultimately saved Doug would be up to you if you followed that prompt. I would also just like a Chell-centric fic where she responds to Doug's story and knows what he went through, even if he is long-gone. Or, if you'd like them to get to be more contemporaneous and to escape together and get to know what the other went through, that'd be cool too.

If you do Chell/Wheatley, feel free to do your own thing with it. However, I'd also like to note that I love the fic Blue Sky by Waffles, which is often what converts people to shipping Chell/Wheatley. That wasn't the case for me; I stumbled into Chell/Wheatley much more by accident before I ever read the fic. But I love that fic and extended universe stuff based on the fic is welcome. If you do your own thing, though, I would be interested in suddenly-android fics. I like fics where Wheatley was at least at one time his little ball self but then becomes a convincing humanoid. The adjustment, especially if Wheatley is attractive to Chell, too, could be cute-funny. I don't mind somewhat dark fic dealing with Wheatley's egotism as it was affected or accentuated by the chassis if you want to go that route. The musical cue when Chell realizes what is happening with Wheatley has always broken my heart, even before this shipping thing happened. If they were to escape the Labs together, I'd like to learn about what they find on the outside -- canon compliant or otherwise. Zombies, werewolves, nuclear wasteland survival -- whatever you want. I love survival stories and survival bonding.

For a Chell-centric fic, I'd love to read about any point in her life. If you wanted to write about little girl Chell and her parent who likely worked at Aperture before the fateful Bring Your Daughter to Work day, it would be neat if you did a sort of creepy, psychological horror thing with Chell sort of picking up on the fact that something is off before she ever comes to the place. If you wanted to write the story of her being processed in as a test subject, being determined to have impossible tenacity, and her rebellion, I would love that, too, since we have the hope of her escaping later. Any missing scenes during the games would be welcome, as would her survival after escaping. All I ask is that Chell lives!

Mass Effect Trilogy

Characters/Groups Requested:

  • Female Shepard/Garrus Vakarian

  • Male Shepard/Kaidan Alenko

I love that Shepard and Garrus are brothers in arms first, regardless of Shepard's gender. Then, if fem!Shepard play their cards right, they end up accidentally falling in love as a result of being friends with benefits and tried by fire. I just really like that it seems like no matter how you shook their relationship up, they would come out caring about each other without question. The fact that they seem to be genuinely into each other without really having a fetish or past inter-species relations is really appealing. Post-War survival fic would be nice. Missing scenes would also be good. I like survival and domestic situations equally. If you wanted to write something about them interacting with war orphans it would melt my heart.

For Male Shepard and Kaidan, I just really want to know more about the development of their chemistry. I like the fact that m!Shep and Kaidan can't have a romance until ME3 because I tend to think of it as them just being a lot more tangled in multiple layers of possible social taboos and denial and finally just really needing to acknowledge their feelings before it's too late. I would really like the "before it's too late" theme to play into a fic about them, even if you turn around and give them a happy ending after all. Awkward unresolved romantic and sexual tension would also be appreciated, taking place in ME1 or ME2. I love the fact that Kaidan is a powerful biotic and a medic, so if that played into it that'd be great. Wound care hurt/comfort, maybe?

Fallout: New Vegas

Characters/Relationships Requested:

  • Female Courier

  • Female Courier/Benny

  • Male Courier/Craig Boone

Female Courier on her own and with any companions you choose! If she has the dog, keep the dog alive! Other than that, go nuts. I would just love to know some of her adventures, either in line with a quest or perhaps to know more about how she got to where she ended up at the beginning of the game. I would just really like to get to know her as a fleshed out person. How did she become a courier? Did she have a past beyond that? Maybe a tag scene right before Benny shoots her would be an idea to start with and work backward, but really, whatever you want to do pre-, during, or post- game.

For Female Courier/Benny, I am not looking for a healthy romance fic, let me be clear. I just was a little bit shocked when I found out that one could seduce him as a possible response to finding him? It's obviously so, so messed up, but the one time I was playing with a character I decided could stomach it, I was really disappointed with the possible resolutions. You could either shoot him in his sleep, or if you went to sleep, he would just leave you a note and leave you. Neither of those things were satisfying to me. I honestly wanted something more like a mutually weird psychological thing where Female Courier got to kind of get her revenge through making Benny feel increasingly messed up and haunted by a living woman. I wanted New Vegas Bonnie and Clyde with a mix of crime and vigilantism, or something. I want the kind of messed up psychology described to be mutual. That would be interesting to me, if you have the stomach to handle writing it for me.

For Male Courier/Craig Boone, I just... had never thought about this and then really liked the tag? I like Boone as a companion, but since I had played as the Female Courier this specifically never occurred to me. I would like you to flesh out Male Courier, as you'd like. I just thought that if this were a relationship that might occur that it might cater to one of my favorite things which is bisexual people kind of coming to terms with being bisexual and having it be a good thing in their lives instead of getting them judged and left alone. If Craig was able to deal with his grief for his wife but then found really unexpected new love while killing the heck out of the Legion, that would be fantastic. Long talks in shoddy shelter and bonding leading to romance? I love survival tropes leading to bonding, so go for it.

Dear AUExchange author,

Thank you for writing something for me! I have not done any duplicate-fandom nominations because I believe that in cases where I chose multiple characters/relationships, most of the AU tags would work with a focus on any of the characters/relationships. Please go with your gut and write the one that fits the best for you. If there is more than one relationship or character tag you like, feel free to include both but make the focus central to one in such a way that the narrative is manageable for you. Basically, feel free to interpret my prompts as you wish and to be creative. Anything I say in this letter, except for DNWs/Dislikes, is just a suggestion.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

Since the AU tags themselves are prompts, I will leave those to speak for themselves and also include a few clarifying notes or thoughts where needed. Please feel free to focus on one character or relationship tag or to combine them (as long as they don't contradict relationships, etc.).

Avatar: The Last Airbender

Characters/Relationships Requested:

  • Relationship: Aang/Katara/Zuko

  • Relationship: Zuko & Iroh

  • Relationship: Zuko & Katara & Azula & Ty Lee & Mai

  • Zuko

AUs Requested

  • AU: Aang is discovered too late but the Gaang+Zuko mount a rebellion

  • AU: Katara is captured by the Fire Nation at the end of Book 2

  • AU: the Gaang captures Zuko

I have requested an OT3 between Aang, Katara, and Zuko as my only romantic relationship. If you would like to write about that, great! However, I would like to say that if you would like to include them in a gen relationship, that is okay, too. I love gen relationships between all of the Gaang, and I like the Fire Plastics, too.

I love the time setting and the use of bending. I would prefer if the setting remained the same, even if timing or other details are a bit different. If you choose to include sexual content, please make sure that the characters are of age of consent. These kids need time to grow up, and I don't want to read underage sexuality. However, if they are old enough, I am okay with any rating for this fandom! Please let me know some of what happened in the interim, if you go that way.

I like canon Katara/Aang, but I don't like the fact that it seemed so necessary to resolve it in less than a year when they were so young. I appreciate the strong indication that it was going to work out, but I would like a slower burn. It would also make it easier to work one's way into an OT3. It is okay if the OT3 starts out as a twosome, too, then builds into including three. But please, please, please remember I am 100% okay with a mutually gen relationship too.

I love Azula and Ty Lee and Mai and how they are friends but that Azula's power over her friends is really unhealthy. I would like to see that, if you choose that AU, and how Katara and Zuko react to that. If you do this fic, you could also include something where Aang and Sokka come to get Katara at some point, but that is also 1000% optional.

Arranged Marriage Trope is totally welcome in this fandom, too, if you wanted.

Iroh is my favorite parental figure, probably, in anything. Anything Zuko does in any of the AUs, I would love to know how he is involved and how he responds. If, for example, Zuko gets captured by the Gaang at some point, how does Iroh respond? Does he feel the need to try to rescue him? Does he change his mind later? Anything like that.

Zuko doesn't have to be the focal character of any of these, but I picked his single character tag in case you wanted him to be!

I am just throwing things out there, though! My tags are descriptive enough so please ignore these things if you already have something you want to write.

DC Cinematic Universe

Characters/Relationship Requested:

  • Relationship: Diana/Steve Trevor

AUs Requested

  • AU: Captain Kirk from Star Trek is Steve reincarnated

  • AU: Steve survives plane explosion from abilities unknown to him before then

  • AU: Soulmates reincarnate and find each other

  • AU: Barry Allen saves Steve from explosion through time travel

  • AU: Steve Trevor survives the events of the WW movie

If you do the Star Trek AU, please be advised that I've only seen the first Star Trek movie with Chris Pine in it. I liked it, though, so if you wanted to write that it might motivate me to watch the others. I love Steve Trevor so much, and that is a shortcut to seeing Diana in space.

If Steve has abilities, is reincarnated, or anything that involves him being anything but a mundane, ordinary human, you could take these ideas and run with them: Steve is a reincarnation of an Ancient Greek hero; Steve is some kind of creature from white, European mythology.

Any other DC characters are free to show up! I'm more familiar with the Arrowverse for Barry, so if you wanted to do a sort of Earth-fusion thing in that way, feel free, but don't feel obligated to. I've seen DC Cinematic Universe Barry in the trailers, at least. I also like the Batfam. Again, no pressure, just freedom!

I just fell in love with Diana/Steve. I love the fact that it isn't full gender role reversal given the time period but that it is a reversal of presumptive authority. Steve and the other men come to rely on Diana and her amazing abilities, even going so far as to lament having to do something "on their own" without her. I love that this film didn't shy away from traditional gender roles and the prejudices that go with them but allowed Diana to buck against them with her own ideals, culture, and personality, rather than just making it a sort of sweeping, hammy indictment of everyone.

I'd love it if they could get married or have a sort of agreement similar to marriage. I'd love to see them get to be intimate, but I would like something of a plot, so it's up to you!

If you do Soulmates and Reincarnation, I basically love any of those Soulmate AU things but maybe something with words or language would be cool since Diana can speak many languages.

Mass Effect Trilogy

Characters/Relationships Requested:

  • Relationship: Normandy Crew

  • Relationship: Male Shepard/Kaidan Alenko

  • Relationship: Female Shepard/Garrus Vakarian (Mass Effect Trilogy)

  • Relationship: Jeff "Joker" Moreau/EDI

  • Female Shepard

  • Kaidan Alenko

  • Jeff "Joker" Moreau

  • Garrus Vakarian

AUs Requested:

  • AU: Reapers Don't Exist

  • AU: ME2 is About Finding an Alternative Way to Defeat the Reapers

  • AU: Just-Zombies/Husks AU but still In Space

  • AU: Everybody Lives

  • AU: Cerberus is Competent

  • AU: Female Shepard and Male Shepard are Siblings

  • AU: Buffy the Vampire Slayer-style Fusion

A ton of relationships listed above! Remember, pick a reasonable number for yourself and the ones you like the most.

For Reapers Don't Exist or Just-Zombies/Husks AU, or the Everybody Lives one, I would just like to see the Normandy Crew come together anyway. I would still like some conflicts and some stakes, but I would just like them to be smaller scale and more interpersonal to allow for more focus on the characters' and their individual relationships and morality rather than what must be done for the entire galaxy. I like survival fiction, serious and silly. One-blanket shipping trope is a classic I love.

ME2 has received a lot of plot criticism from some people I know for being sort of a weird detour rather than something that could have made the ME3 ending more palatable to more people. If you want to go a really world-build-y, plotty AU route, I'd be interested to see what you come up with! As with that, if you go for the Cerberus is Competent AU, instead of or in addition to, I would just like to see Cerberus as a viable, darker moral gray option if we're going to go with Shepard working with them. They just go from weird, pointless experience, too all their guys getting killed in this sort of meandering way and I would just like to see if you could create some cohesion and make it more of a choice.

Female and Male Shepard are Siblings AU could go with any of these! Or, if you choose to just have one Shepard around, I am okay with any Shepard, default or custom, and any background and psychological profile. I prefer Paragon or Paragade Shepards, but some Renegade stuff is fine.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer-style fusion honestly came from the fact that Seth Green's voice always made me think of his character, Oz, from BtVS. It occurred to me that this might go with my zombies/husks suggestion or give you a modern AU. Or it could be that the line of slayers has continued all the way up into human space colonization. Female Shepard could be the Slayer. I would also be open to any of the other female characters being the Slayer and Shepard being her muscle. Just, please make sure the Slayer is female, but the focal point of this story could be through Joker's eyes (meta joke), or anyone else's. Any character and relationship requested could fold into this. I seriously don't mind. Again, I love survival tropes, so just them getting through the day, slaying vampires or slaying zombies, would be great. If you do a modern AU with this, please, please let me have Garrus is still totally a turian and living on Earth somehow, if he's in it. Tell me how that works.

And, so far, I haven't said anything about Kaidan so here's a blurb about him. If you do anything with him, I just love that he is a biotic with faulty equipment. I love that he's a very competent soldier but has also chosen to hone his skills as a medic. I like the idea of mShep/Kaidan because I like the idea of a closeted bisexual soldier finally not being able to be silent about his feelings for a commanding officer when they both might die. Do with that what you will.

FemShep/Garrus is great because they start as brothers in arms, regardless of Shepard's gender, but then can go along this interesting path of almost accidentally stumbling into love from being friends with benefits that is really nice.

Joker/EDI is just great because I think it's amazing that Joker would so much rather deal with his ship than normal people problems.

Any rating is good! You can include sexuality if you like for any pairing I've requested.

Dear NPTimer,

I am [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe.

Thank you for writing something for me! I love this exchange, and I do my best to participate every year. I am requesting some different things from my usual, but I am very interested to see what you come up with for any of the requests you choose to fill. As usual, if you have a story you want to tell that doesn't quite line up with a prompt I've provided, please go for it. My dislikes list is short and should be easy to get around. Otherwise, consider everything in this letter flexible and write something that you are interested in writing so we'll both have fun!

Any characters from given fandoms that are not within the requested relationship are welcome to appear in your fic, if you'd like! I am fine with any rating but do not care for PWP. Crossovers are fine if it is something I've written or you've seen mentioned in one of my dear author letters which you can find by clicking the tag link (basically, anything as long as you have reason to believe I know what you're talking about). AUs are also totally fine but I do not really want mundane/no powers AUs where applicable.

The rest of this letter is: dislikes, likes, then fandom-specific prompts which you can CTRL + F if you like.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

Dear Long(er)fic Writer,

I am [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe.

Thank you for writing something for me! Especially given the nature of this exchange requiring a greater-than-usual commitment on your part, I will try to make my prompts as helpful to you as possible. Please do not let my prompts intimidate, hinder, or bore you. If you have a different idea with my requested character(s) that doesn't really harp on my DNWs, go for whatever you want, basically. My prompts are just guidelines to not leave you in the dark.

The order of my letter goes: dislikes, likes, fandom-specific prompts.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils

I did not pick 'Smut' as a genre, but I am comfortable with any rating or the inclusion of sexual themes or content. I simply do not really want PWP.

Dear Chocolatier,

I am [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe on AO3.

Thank you so much for writing something for me! Each time I write one of these letters, I try to consolidate my common preferences, including likes and dislikes. Forgive me if it seems redundant at all. Please remember that this letter is for your convenience and guidance. If you have an idea you'd like to write that doesn't particularly fit one of my prompts or likes, go for it! My dislikes/do-not-wants list is pretty short, so please don't feel in any way intimidated by this letter.

In this letter, I'll provide you with dislikes, likes, and some fandom-specific prompts. In fandoms where I have requested "any" relationship, more concise prompts are for your sake and not intended to indicate lesser interest.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions

Sexual content between consenting adults is fine if you'd like to write it, but I would prefer no PWP.

Dear yuletide author,

It's that time of year again, and I couldn't be more excited that I am once again doing Yuletide. Each year, I have slightly more obscure fandom interests, so I have gone from scratching my head to biting my nails with anticipation. Whatever you choose to write for me, I hope you enjoy yourself. Any prompts I provide are there to help you, but if you have a story in mind that does not fall within those prompt parameters, go right ahead! My DNWs list is pretty short and concise, so I very much appreciate you bearing that in mind, but otherwise I am pretty much good with anything that you would find in or alluded to any given canon and explicit stuff if you see fit, though I would prefer no PWP.

I give my dislikes first to get the negative out of the way, then my likes, and then fandom specific stuff. Also, I am okay with crossovers if for some reason you want to do one between any of my requested fandoms or a fandom you discover I'm somehow familiar with by cyberstalking me. If you would like to include any unnominated characters in addition to any requested characters, I love diverse character sets in fics, so feel free. I'll give you shipping preferences if you want to include them, but I am equally happy with gen. I would generally prefer it if you did not use unrequested ships as a primary focus, but the inclusion of unrequested ships for plot, particularly if they are canon, does not bother me. If I request more than one character, I am perfectly okay with a limited number of requested set appearing, though I am also happy if they all show up.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless ending (but sad is okay), no powers AUs, loli/shota

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, post-canon, "what if" / canon divergence AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions

Dear trickortreatex author,

I'm [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe on AO3!

Thank you for writing something for me, first and foremost. I write a lot of these letters, and often they feel a bit redundant. I always strive to make them a bit more concise, a bit more detailed, whatever I think will help each time. If you feel confused by anything, know that you can look at past Dear Author letters and find... much the same thing, perhaps expressed in a slightly different way.

I love Halloween and spooky things. I love things which are both creepy and cute. However, I do not necessarily need any of these fics to be centered around the holiday. Instead, I am excited to see whether or not you go with a trick or a treat! I have requested either/or and I fully encourage you to go either direction you feel inspired! I have a few firm Do-Not-Wants, but other than that I am fully in support of all trick fics you might come up with.

I will provide you with some dislikes, likes, and then on to fandom-specific prompts and thoughts!

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless ending (but sad is okay), no powers AUs, loli/shota

I'd also like to ask for no unrequested ships as a primary focus, since there are some fandoms I've requested a lot of characters for and don't necessarily want to itemize all of my preferences out. However, I don't mind if your story includes an unrequested ship, especially if it's canon. Gen relationships of any nature or combination are perfect, though! I don't have to have a ship in any fic.

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, post-canon, "what if" / canon divergence AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions

About Art: It occurs to me that when art is an option, since I only actually request fanfiction, that I never say anything about it. I would be happy to receive art as a treat! I just know it's a ton of work and am not the most visually-oriented person. If you feel compelled to do art: my favorite color is red, I overall like warm palettes, but anything is good as long as it isn't graphically gory!

You can CTRL + F to find the fandom you're looking for if scrolling is too much!

Dear darkestnightex author,

I'm [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe!

Another first for me, this is my first inherently-dark fic exchange, so please bear with my delicate heart. In the Optional Details section on AO3, I put the following information as hard do-not-wants as instructed by the form:

Hard DNWs: Please do not write any unrequested forms of sexual violence or coercion for me. Even if dark sexual themes are permissible per prompt, please no snuff or serious or permanent injury associated with sex. Please do not write excessive gore beyond what one might see in a PG-13 setting, though canon-typical violence is okay certainly. Please do not write a heavily nihilistic narrative for me. Even in the midst of misery I would prefer not all-hope-ever-is-lost.

I have a pretty standard format for these letters, so please forgive any redundancy in my usual dislikes list. Please also note that as long as you abide by the above, the dislikes list can be considered flexible to a degree if it would help with your narrative since these are not necessarily supposed to have happy endings or the like.

Dislikes: character-bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, bloodplay*, nihilism, utterly hopeless forever and ever ending, no powers AUs

*Basically what I mean here for this exchange is the above-mentioned no serious or permanent injury related to sex.

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, canon-divergent AUs, earned happy endings, groundhog day trope, monster-of-the-week adventures, casefic

Because of the extremely extensive additional tagging for this exchange, in my fandom-specific prompts I will list the tags requested but write general prompts that bear them in mind rather than addressing each tag. If you don't see something in any of the prompts that jumps out at you, feel free to bypass them and go with something from the requested tag list as your source of inspiration. I want to see the story you want to write. Prompts are there to help, not hinder. I hope you have fun writing for me!

Dear genex author,

This is my first time participating in a definitely-gen exchange. I am really excited about it, but this is somewhat new ground for me, even if a lot of my ship-fics could be read as gen with the right goggles. I am [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe on AO3. This letter is some prompting guidelines but is not binding. I am excited to see whatever you come up with and this letter is to help rather than bind you!

I retool my dislikes and likes from pretty much the same pool for every exchange. I'm trying to make it a little more enlightening for gen specifically this go-around. You can reference any of my other dear author letters for the typical list and anything else you'd like to know about me that I don't share here.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, explicit gore, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay), no powers AUs

Likes: missing scenes, platonic affection, found families, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, post-canon, bonding experiences, funny-awkward situations, "what if" / canon divergence AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, healing, canon-typical themes

Dear everywoman author,

Thank you so much for writing for me! And I'm so sorry if you caught this letter when it was a placeholder for a few hours longer than it should have been. I started my Master's program the week that the sign-ups were closing up, and I was kind of buried. As always, this letter is to provide you with prompts and guidance, but it is not binding. If you have something else in mind that diverges from my prompts, feel free! I can't wait to see what you come up with. My AO3 name is [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe.

I am comfortable with any rating, and Explicit is totally fine if you feel inclined, but I would prefer no PWP. Crossovers are okay with me, if there are any fandoms here which you find compatible. Now I'll give you some dislikes, likes, then some fandom-specific prompts.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, bloodplay*, nihilism, hopeless ending (but sad is okay), no powers AUs

*I always put that I don't like bloodplay, and I don't. However, I have a fandom that literally involves vampires and others where I'm talking about death and canon-typical violence. I don't mind blood being present in a story and maybe even a bit of sensual creep about it. I just don't want sexy-injury-sexy-times to an excessive degree.

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, post-canon, "what if" / canon divergence AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, somewhat dark fic

Since there's a bunch of them, I'm putting my character selections in alphabetical order, so the "main" characters might not be first and please don't perceive it as preference. Groups come last. Fandoms also have nothing to do with preference order, that was just directly copied from my sign-up form.

Dear NPT Author,

First of all, thank you for writing something for me! I can't wait to see what you come up with. This letter is to provide you with guidelines about things I might like to see. It isn't binding, and if you have another story your heart is set on telling, please feel free to use that idea instead. I am [archiveofourown.org profile] failsafe on AO3.

I am comfortable with any rating, and Explicit is totally fine if you feel inclined, but I would prefer no PWP. Crossovers are okay with me, if there are any fandoms here which you find compatible. Now I'll give you some dislikes, likes, then some fandom-specific prompts.

Dear shipswap Author,

Thank you for writing something for me! This letter is intended to guide you as to some of my likes and dislikes, as well as to provide some prompts for you to consider. If you have a different idea in mind for the pairing we matched on that you want to write, feel free to follow what you're most-passionate about writing. Prompts are just guidelines here to help you! I love surprises, too.

In some cases, I may have chosen more relationships for a fandom due to availability or interest. If a fandom has a shorter prompt section, it is for this reason. I have only requested things that I'm interested in receiving, I promise!

To get the dullest part out of the way, here is my standard list of things I do not want in a fic.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, prolonged torture scenes, gore, breathplay, bloodplay, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

And now for things I like and enjoy in fic.

Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, post-canon, "what if" scenarios, earned happy endings, holidays (winter or otherwise), casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, somewhat dark fic

Some of the fandoms selected have overlapping canon. Crossovers between those are definitely welcome but not specifically requested. I think people like to cross over The Librarians and Leverage quite a bit, so that is cool if you want to do that, too! Again, just saying I am happy with them, not that I am pressuring you to do them.

For ratings, I am comfortable with anything from G to E, but I would prefer no PWP.

Dear Chocolatier,

Thank you for writing something for me! I'm excited to see what you come up with. The following letter should be considered a guideline, and if you feel compelled to deviate from it, feel free! As long as it's not something specifically listed as something I don't want, then I love surprises, too!

This letter is a guideline meant to help you, that's all. It's also going to be very long for this exchange, so I want to make it easy for you to navigate. To navigate to the fandom you came looking for, you can use CTRL + F for the way the fandom you're looking for is listed on the tagset. You can do the same with relationships. Some sections will be longer than others due to number of relationships requested. Don't think that a shorter section means I want it less! I am very excited about everything I requested.

I'll start with general likes and dislikes, then move to fandom specifics.

Likes: monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, building or established relationships, time travel, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary fiction, canon-typical violence, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, post-canon, "what if" scenarios, earned happy endings, holidays (winter or otherwise), casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing

For ratings, I am comfortable with anything from G to E, but I would prefer no PWP. I also do not under any circumstances want anything above the T rating for any characters who are not both mentally and physically adults with regard to sexual content. I think this only applies to Puella Magi Madoka Magica as far as ships are concerned, but it applies across the board.

If you are interested in crossovers between any of my requested fandoms, I'm totally happy to receive them. There is no pressure nor any official request, but I think that most of them occur in compatible time periods and universes except The Hunger Games and Star Wars.

In any case where you want to include an un-nominated or un-requested chracter as part of your story, feel free. I like all of the canons I have requested and don't tend to narrow my focus to one or two people.

Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, prolonged torture scenes, gore, breathplay, bloodplay, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)

If you want to find more about me on the internet, my AO3 name is failsafe and this is my tumblr, though I've been kind of slow on it lately.

Please note, this letter contains a few sporadic spoilers or at least strong allusions to spoilers for The Force Awakens and other fandoms, so tread carefully.
