It's really good! I watched it sort of passively the first time around, then rewatched it about a winter later. It was a really nice cold-weather comfort. But then again, I think everything is nicer in winter. I think I saw one of The Librarian movies a long time ago on TV but it's not actually necessary to understand the show, a bit like Stargate to SG-1.
