failsafe. I really look forward to participating in this exchange. Included in this letter are my likes, dislikes, and some individual prompts and clarifications. Generally, unless I explicitly say that I don't want something, I am happy for fic to go there, as long as there is a silver lining at the end. Happy slice-of-life to dark fic and survival in the trenches, I'm excited to read it!
Likes: canon-typical violence, missing scenes, UST, emotional ambiguity, found families, developing or established relationships, time travel, pre-canon, post-canon, bedsharing, loyalty, worldbuilding, epistolary/journal/log fiction, monster-of-the-week / slice of ordinary life adventures, earned second chances, dealing with consequences, "what if" / canon divergent AUs, earned happy endings, holidays, casefic, groundhog day trope, mysteries, healing, survival (wilderness, zombie apocalypse, etc.), last stands, trying against impossible odds, succeeding against impossible odds, heartfelt goodbyes, unexpected reunions, foils
Dislikes: character bashing towards anybody, noncon, explicit gore, breathplay, serious or permanent injury related to sexuality, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad is okay)
I'm comfortable with any rating of fic, but I don't want graphic representations of underage sexuality. Fade-to-black or be subtle if characters are underage, or write a fic where they are of age, please, should you choose to include sexuality. If you do include sexuality, I prefer to let the characters and context dictate kinks, rather than me. Other than something that touches on my dislikes or nonsexual bodily fluids, I'm game.
Doctor Who
Ashildr | Lady Me/Clara Oswin Oswald
I would love something that thematically deals with how they are similar to Time Ladies but are both, at their core, humans who had two very different absences from their own rightful deaths thrust upon them. I would be happy with a pleasant adventure with some dark undertones; perhaps something dealing with how Clara can't ever go back to the life she left behind, while Me has forgotten most of hers. Alternatively, I think it would be interesting to explore Clara and Me being analogs and contrasts to the Doctor and the Master/Missy respectively. Any Doctor Who characters are welcome to appear as you see fit; I like everyone to varying degrees.
Heather (Doctor Who: The Pilot)/Bill Potts
I would be thrilled with something that fleshed out Heather's past, present, and her future now that she has come to get Bill and saved her. I thought it was so nice and poignant that there was something so nice to come out of an inevitable, unfixable fate for Bill. I would like to see their adventures together, Bill showing Heather around and Heather proving that there are, in fact, a few things she knows - being a different kind of creature now - that Bill can still find wonder in. I would like a mostly-happy fic, but them overcoming adversity together would be really nice so conflict is also welcome. Where do they go? Do they meet other past-companions? Does Bill ever get to let Heather meet Thirteen or another Doctor?
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika | Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Miki Sayaka/Sakura Kyouko
It seems to me that these two were also a casualty of the repeating, doomed timelines pushing them further and further apart. It seems like that, early on, the five girls tended to come together into a typical magical girl team but that things tended to spiral more and more as time went on. At least, that's the impression I always got. I'd like to see, perhaps, the first time they managed to meet. Alternatively, how was it that Sayaka ended up, apparently, living with or so closely to Kyouko in Rebellion? I'd also like a happy-bittersweet post-Rebellion fic about Sayaka having returned to her Madoka's Angel position and Kyouko finally meeting her end and being reunited with her.
Akemi Homura/Sakura Kyouko
Homura seems to indicate that Kyouko is a wild card in the equation. Sometimes she is involved, other times she is not. In the timeline that is the focus of the main series, she seems to try and ally herself with Kyouko, even appearing friendly to her even when it seems to run counter to what Madoka wants, for the sake of her end-game. I wonder if there were other timelines in which they might have had a different dynamic still? I like the arguably more canon-oriented ships for these two, but I'd like to see a fic where maybe they find comfort in each other - even messed-up, unhealthy comfort, like a friends with benefits relationship with blurry boundaries in a doomed timeline. Or, if you'd like to do happier, any canon-divergent AU of your choice.
Shadowhunters
Clary Fray/Isabelle Lightwood
I just love how the show basically avoided the catty jealousy-of-and-random-hatred-for other-pretty-girls between these two. I love how Isabelle takes to Clary and is so willing to touch and comfort her, to make her promises and to try to keep them. I like how Clary is willing to trust Isabelle and to let her take her in under her wing when she needs someone. I love how they're mutually protective of each other and slyly cooperative at times. Any canon-divergent AU where these two could end up together would be nice. Sex rituals of some kind that are consensual, if a bit awkward, could be cute and sweet. Clary showing Izzy something about the mundane world or an extended scene of the world inverted universe would also be fun.
Totally optional detail, since the comm said we could - I just wanted to be clear that I'm fine if Simon wants to come poly or if it's an open thing where Clary also has some connection to Jace, but 1000% optional since they said we could do that.
Stargate SG-1 / (All Series)
Samantha "Sam" Carter/Janet Fraiser
I've been rewatching SG-1 recently, and I am more taken with Janet than I ever was. Plus, I've always loved the SG-1 team, especially the original flavor, uniquely among fictional characters. When I first watched SG-1, I absolutely hated the episode Hathor because of some discomfort I had with its themes, but upon seeing it again I just really loved how well Sam and Janet worked together. If you dig around on my dreamwidth here, I wrote a meta post about that episode which includes some discussion of it. I'd really like to have a fic about them interacting in civilian life and it leading to a connection that they want to explore. Alternatively, Janet going on a mission with SG-1 out of necessity and she and Sam ending up caught on their own, depending on each other for survival, would be awesome. If you want to have them bonding through co-parenting Cassandra, if that's your thing, it'd be nice, too.
Fate/Grand Order
Female Player Character/Mash Kyrielight
I've restarted FGO twice now, once in Japanese (which I couldn't read) and once in English. Even before I could read it, I thought that the inferences I was making about Mash and the player character were cute. I really like the idea that Mash previously felt like she wasn't really competent to be in the field and that she was more a labcoat than a fighter and that circumstance thrust Mash and the player character into this situation where they both have to change and fast. Mash is just so sweetly determined, and I really like characters' whose greatest strength is their ability to protect. Characterize the player character however you like, but I'd like her to be given a personality. I'm familiar with the other Fate stories, so if you want to include references, characters, or frameworks of stories, feel free! Survival together, bonding moments, and so on would be really nice to read.
