Dear Shipoween Author:
Dear Shipoween Author,
Thank you for writing something for me! I hope you have some nice autumnal or spooky fun during the season in which you get to write this.
I divide my Dear Author Letters into two sections: Preferences and Prompts. The "Preferences" section covers all the general stuff about things I do not want, things I like, and anything else that might be helpful to know. In addition to my standard list of DNWs and likes, I have included a few extras for the 'seasonal' and 'spooky' themes for this exchange. The "Prompts" section includes some blurbs about each tag I have selected.
I want you to create something you are happy with! If you have your own ideas, you do not have to use my prompts closely.
This account is primarily a Dear Author Letter repository. My main dreamwidth account is

Preferences
Medium.
Generally, I request fanfic, but I welcome art as treats! In this exchange, I have decided to dip my toe into actually requesting art for Dragon Age, in addition to my usual fanfic requests. I'm nervous about requesting art, because I'm not sure how to give satisfying feedback about it, but if you make me some, I will do my best!
See the Dragon Age prompts for guidance there, if Dragon Age fanart is what you matched on/want to make!
Ratings.
Any rating is fine! I enjoy Gen/PG fics that focus on relationship building, fluff, domesticity, slice of life, or found family dynamics. I'm also happy to receive fics that are more on the Explicit side of things if you want to write that! In that case, feel free to give me lots of detail, fade-to-black, or anything in between.
DNWs.
General/Non-sexual
- extreme or gratuitous torture or gore
- graphic depictions of extreme bodily injury (unless magically mostly fixed)
- unrequested AUs except canon divergence
- character or ship bashing
- unrequested permanent character death of any main character
- hopeless ending (scary, sad, or uncertain okay)
Sexuality-Related
- permanent injury related to sexual activity (unintentional or markings such as brands, scars, etc.)
- breathplay
- hardcore or lifestyle BDSM / D/s (lighter and spontaneous forays into BDSM or D/s that do not define characters' whole relationships are fine!)
- noncon
- sexual contact with wounds
- spitting as an act of sexual dominance (typical uses of saliva otherwise are whatever)
- semen or anything similar in eyes
- A/B/O
- m!preg (unless transman pregnant for whatever reason; basically no biologically-impossible pregnancies)
General Likes.
Gen
- found family
- monster of the week/casefic
- slice of life (especially dealing with canon-appropriate twists on mundane existence or minor inconveniences)
- character study
- canon-typical violence/aftermath (hurt/comfort)
- canon-divergent AUs
- missing scenes
- survival (zombie, wilderness, apocalypse, etc.)
- political intrigue and machinations
- morality exploration
- world-building with character involvement
- redemption/atonement
- forgiveness
- earn your happy ending
- defeating/killing oppressors and abusers
- rebuilding from the ashes
- hurt/comfort
Shippy up to T/PG-13
- unresolved sexual tension
- "I had no one else to ____"
- trust and loyalty
- power imbalance (addressing, not addressing, overcoming, confronting, etc.)
- accidental marriage
- arranged/political marriage
- competence affected by relationship (for better or worse)
- compromising mission/duty for love
- choosing love over mission/duty
- us against the world
- awkward flirting
- accidental/impulsive love confession
- non-sexual physical intimacy
- sexually-charged physical intimacy that (for [x] reason) does not reach full realization
NSFW
First and foremost, I want something that feels in-character! Apart from my DNWs and anything that you would consider very opt-in, I am pretty open-minded about how characters have sex and any kinks they may have.
Vanilla sex is fine! Kinky sex is fine. Kinks can be straightforward and healthy, or they can be poorly-veiled coping mechanisms. The amount of negotiation and explicit consent can vary depending on who the characters are and where they are in their relationship. It could be their first time, together or at all. It can be established-relationship sex. It can be planned or spontaneous. It can be smooth or awkward or sensual or weird. Let the characters and relationship rather than my personal preferences guide you.
Even if your fic focuses primarily on a sexy scene, I would like a smattering of context. More than anything, I want to feel like it happens between people, not just ad-lib erotica. For my prompts, I may not always explicitly prompt smut, but please know that you can include it for any ship I have requested unless I expressly ask you not to.
Shipoween Theme Likes.
You may overlap these all you like.
Seasonal
- huddling for warmth (general or one-blanket-esque)
- bonding over food
- sharing holidays and traditions
- something that seems scary but which turns out fine with a flood of relief
- anything autumnal that seems appropriate for the setting/story/universe
Spooky
I think a lot of my likes already could work for a 'spooky' theme, but here are a few extras in the spirit of the exchange.
- fertility rites | Something Made Them Do It (dubcon only, please)
- evading a murderer or monster
- solving a murder mystery | trying to avert a murder plot against character or third party
- interaction with a ghost (of one of the characters/death fix-it or a third party)
- apparent/fixable character death (including the trauma that comes with it)
- traumatic experiences (and coping with the aftermath)
- rescued from the threat of grave bodily harm and/or noncon
- Gothic Horror
- Psychological Horror
- Cosmic Horror without a nihilistic ending (a subversion, I guess?)
Prompts
Steins;Gate
No Theme, Seasonal, Spooky
Steins;Gate is one of the most emotionally engaging and haunting shows I have ever watched. I think that is owed, in great part, to the way that it presents the audience with something very jarring and spooky at the very beginning, then spends several episodes lulling the viewer into a false sense of security (and even boredom) with strange slice-of-life content. I love how the characters feel like friends and how each character relates to the others on their own terms. While it does sort of seem like Okabe is the center of the universe in one sense, his friends interact with each other and not just him, and I love that, even when the spotlight is on him.
Hiyajo Maho/Makise Kurisu/Okabe Rintarou
I think it's fairly clear that Maho had a crush on Kurisu before she ever went to Japan. Then, in 0, I think Maho and Okabe seem to be attracted to each other, even if it starts over their shared grief. I love the idea that Kurisu is bi, whether she knows it yet or not. I would love any fic that brings them together, either across worldlines or in the same worldline. I just want all of them to get the chance to be happy, even if it's after a lot of grief.
- Okabe finds himself involuntarily shifting worldlines, and it is up to Maho and Kurisu to keep him from losing himself completely. Whether all three of them can stabilize on the same worldline is up to you.
- Maho is much more skeptical than Kurisu or Okabe seem to be. I would love to see her facing something (apparently or actually) supernatural. She might be in denial, but there is something credibly frightening about the situation, and Okabe and Kurisu help her.
- Perhaps an AU where Okabe meets Kurisu and Maho on their home turf in America on a different worldline. What happens to them? Is Kurisu the "hero" of the story?
Okabe Rintarou | Hououin Kyouma & Amane Suzuha
I love the fact that their relationship can be read as close without any potential romantic subtext. Personally, I headcanon that Suzuha is wlw, but this may or may not factor into your vision. I love how concerned Okabe is over his friends without ulterior motive. I also feel sorry for Suzuha but very interested that it seems to be in her nature to be a bit of a fighter. I would like to see them either get to cease fighting together or to fight alongside each other.
- Suzuha views Okabe as her 'uncle' on the Beta worldline. I would love to see more of that familial relationship!
- In the alpha worldline, Suzuha never got to know Okabe directly, but she knows him as an almost folk-hero who was close to her father. While they get to know each other, it seems like the develop a familial relationship in spite of this. Their hanging out together and Suzuha getting to know the modern world warms my heart! Or I would like something that fixes her doomed fate when she goes back in time.
- In the Steins Gate worldline, I would love to see Okabe bonding with his little niece friend when she is an actual child. Perhaps it is cathartic to him to see her grow up in a world that is almost but not quite normal. Perhaps he saves her from something that is way more surmountable than anything he faced through the hell he went through.
Okabe Rintarou | Hououin Kyouma/Makise Kurisu
The fact that these two idiots fall in love in spite of all good sense and are really good for each other anyway is the core of Steins;Gate to me. I would love to see anything where they finally get to spend some time together on the same path. I'm interested in how Okabe has all this history with Kurisu whereas she only has dreams and impressions.
- Okabe is deeply traumatized after everything he goes through in canon. Kurisu is an academic who studies the mind. I would love to see them try to get him some psychological help. This could be a mostly comforting, soft story that focuses on the comfort part of hurt/comfort, or it could go really wrong at first and only reach the comforting bit at the end.
- Kurisu is canonically dead on most of the beta worldlines, it stands to reason. Perhaps a spooky story about some of the iterations where she cannot or barely escapes death (with at least a hopeful/silver lining ending). Basically an inversion of the many deaths of Mayuri we get in the show?
- I would love to read a slice of life from later on in their lives on the 'Steins Gate' worldline. It seems like it is safer and less doomed, but it is not a utopia. I would like something triumphant, whether it be in the mundane aspects of their lives or the ways in which they thwart evil Organization plots. (I'm familiar with Robotics;Notes if you want to draw from it, or do your own speculative future!) If you want to include them having a child together or being a great aunt and uncle to baby Suzuha, I would enjoy that, too.
Dragon Age
No Theme, Seasonal, Spooky
Dragon Age is a fairly new fandom for me. I am still playing through DA2 for the first time. I have learned a lot from my best friend, the wiki, and youtube, though, so I don't mind spoilers!
I'm really into the fact that each game is its own, new story in the context of the same universe. It feels like a bigger narrative is being pieced together, thread by thread. It feels as sprawling as door-stopper fantasy books while coming to me in little bite-sized chunks, which is great for my attention span! I love that Thedas can be dark and has a multitude of problems, both reflections of the real world and issues all its own. More than that, though, I love how character relationships are such a big part of the game and how, even through darkness, you can get these love and friendship matter themes!
Art Preferences.
This is my first time also ticking the 'fanart' box for an exchange. I am open to receiving basically whatever you would like to produce for one of these prompts! I don't know a lot about art, but I appreciate all kinds of styles and color palettes. My favorite colors tend to be red, jewel tones, dark natural colors, and neutral tones, but I would prefer that the subject matter and your inspiration guide than any arbitrary color preference.
One random thing: if you draw Alistair, I would prefer that you not give him elf ears. I appreciate that he is half-elf, but we are given an in-universe explanation for why this doesn't "show," and it jars me a little bit to see art where he is suddenly an elf. If you want to give him pointer-on-the-human-side-of-things ears, that's okay!
If you are going to include the Warden or Hawke, the next bit of text includes links that will let you see what mine look like! You can also peruse my steam screenshots in general, at your own peril: https://steamcommunity.com/id/clockwork_sky/screenshots/
Player Character Notes.
If you plan to include either the Warden or Hawke, I have included some information below about my personal takes on them. However, I would like to make it abundantly clear that I do not mind if you use your own take on these characters! I recently wrote a fic where I tried to include another person's Warden as a character, and I know how nerve-wracking that can be. If you want to revert to your own experiences and inspiration or to your perception of a "default," then by all means do that! I just wanted to give you some information below in case you wanted to be prompted, too.
About the Warden: If you include the Warden, you may use the 'default' names and depictions, or you may reference my Warden: Rosamunde Cousland. I wrote up a guide for myself and others when I was playing DAO for the first time. I also tend to think that she looks a bit like actress Adelaide Kane (though she is not based on Mary from Reign; I've never seen that show). Rosamunde had a happy childhood for the most part, but she was always precocious and curious. She sensed that Rendon Howe was bad news, and by the time she was an adult, she thought Bryce was too trusting. She never knew exactly what was in store, though. She took/takes her position as a noble very seriously, and she cares about being a good leader in whatever leadership position she happens to be in. She values loyalty, but she is a little bit of hypocrite in that she will let people defect to her side fairly easily, as she knows her own intentions. She is young and has a lot of naivete to overcome at the start, but she is determined to meet the challenge and to survive.
About Hawke: I am currently playing through DA2 for the first time, so I haven't prepared a guide like I have for my Warden. I am using the default male Hawke name: Garrett Hawke. He looks like the default Hawke quite a bit, but he and his family are Black. Here is an image of my Hawke (and Carver in the background): https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/1620688418534717811/4CF019F2AAC26D689303AAD71990778A65AF4355/ My Hawke uses primarily Purple responses, and he is a mage who has an affinity for lightning spells. He is more concerned with protecting his family and friends than with great social causes, such as the plight of mages, but if he has an opportunity to help an individual, he will tend to do so.
Here are the Prompts.
Alistair/Female Warden
Please note that I would be happy with Alistair and a Female Warden from any origin! I have included both the generic tag and Cousland tags specifically because my Warden is a Cousland, so I have more developed ideas, but I am open to any of them! Regardless of the Warden involved, I love how their relationship is built on going through the terrors of war and betrayal together but seems like a healing, friendly dynamic. They are friends first, even if they're attracted to each other from the start. I love that they have each other's backs and that the Warden enjoys Alistair for who he is, regardless of his station.
- If Alistair is king, I would love to know whether the Warden becomes his queen or his mistress (whether he is married to Anora or not). I would love to see political machinations and how the Warden is a good influence and supportive partner to Alistair through his learning how to lead. Anything from preventing a war to saving subjects from unexpected monsters to concerns about producing an heir (wink, wink) would make me happy.
- Alistair is left behind in the Fade, presumed dead, but he and/or the Warden will not accept this answer after all they've been through.
- Alistair is canonically fascinated with the occult in spite of his templar training cautioning him toward the dangers. Perhaps curiosity gets the better of him, and he opens the door to something he should not. This could be a lighthearted adventure or it could go more in the direction of horror. It could also be impacted greatly by whether or not the Warden is a mage.
Alistair/Female Cousland
I can't help that I'm really taken with the idea that these two displaced people of noble blood end up together and with the opportunity to change their whole nation whether they end up on the throne or not. I like the way Ferelden has this spirit of nobility being earned and maintained through one's character, even if it doesn't always work out that way.
- Any of the above applied to this tag.
- Since the Female Cousland Warden is the only one who can canonically become Queen, I would love to see a fic that sort of explores that more, particularly post-Awakening or post-cure-for-the-Calling. I would love a story about the Warden's homecoming to the royal court and what awaits her there, whether it is intimate time with her husband or political intrigue in Denerim or both.
- I would love to have a story about the development of Alistair and Cousland's relationship after he reveals that he is of royal blood. Anything with some of the characters from the overall DAO party would be fun, as would any kind of approval or ambivalence from the Cousland Warden. It seem like she would have the least issue with his having hidden his heritage, but if you want to take it a different direction, that would be cool, too!
- Something about Alistair and the Warden using their political influence (as King and Queen or as Wardens) to improve the lot of mages or elves in a meaningful way. They could face some conflict and spooky challenges along the way.
Alistair/Female Cousland/Anora Mac Tir
Fics about these three may tread over some tricky ground. You do not have to write anything you are uncomfortable with, but I want to make it clear that for this relationship I do not mind themes of infidelity, uncertain relationship boundaries, and jealousy that ultimately find a happy resolution. However, you can avoid any of these and have it be more open and honest throughout, too. I just would really like to see all three of them get to be people who ultimately respect and care for each other, flaws and all.
- If the Female Cousland cannot, for political or personal reasons, become the Queen, then I would love a story about her being Alistair's mistress, both as a supportive romantic partner and as a political ally. I would love to see explorations of the tension between Anora, Alistair's new political bride, the Female Cousland, and Alistair and how they resolve these things into a functional relationship.
- If Alistair and the Warden marry after the Blight is over but have Anora detained (as Alistair decides to do prior to the Blight), I would enjoy a story about them deciding to set her free under guard - for her protection and for theirs. Then, perhaps, something instigates them having closer contact with her, and gradually the three of them develop trust for each other, and she is incorporated back into their government. Ferelden's first polygamous monarchs? Or Anora could become an honored person in another position?
- If Anora is the sole Queen of Ferelden, I would like a story where she encounters Alistair and the Female Cousland again and grows to respect them through an adventure. Then, I'd love to see what you think happens next.
Alistair/Female Cousland/Morrigan
The Warden needs a family, and I like the idea of the "original three" being linked forever. The hilarious level of vitriol that exists between Morrigan and Alistair is great fun to me. I cannot imagine that either of them would deign to become acquaintances or friends, let alone lovers, had their allegiance to the Warden (which is itself quite different from the other's) not facilitated it. I would love to see how the three of them have a relationship chemistry that could eventually form into something where they all love and need each other in their own ways.
- An organically developing polyamorous relationship where the Warden acts as a mediator between Alistair and Morrigan in a way that does more than just soften their vitriol. Simply them working together, bantering, and bonding would be great. How does Alistair handle the idea that he might have not one but two women? I would also love to see Morrigan getting care from other people that she isn't sure how to handle but desperately needs.
- Alistair and the Warden are in a relationship when Morrigan suggests the ritual that will allow both of them to survive the final battle. In order to mitigate the discomfort Alistair must surely feel with this situation, the Warden opts to participate.
- I would love to see a fic where the Warden and Alistair accidentally get themselves in over their head with something involving magic and must turn to Morrigan for help. This could happen during the year they were dealing with the Blight, or it could happen years later. If Alistair is king, perhaps this could happen during a time of change for the way mages and magic are viewed in Ferelden.
(Any of the above could lead to co-parenting Kieran if you like to write that sort of thing, but if not then that's a ways off even after she conceives, so whatever you like.)
Alistair/Morrigan
I love Morrigan and Alistair's banter. I loved to drag them everywhre together! I tend to think that people overestimate how much they hate each other and that after a certain point, they interact the way they do because it's habit and a convenient outlet to vent. One of my favorite bits of banter is how Morrigan responds after Alistair goes to see Goldanna. She is trying to comfort him, but he is in a bad moment and can't understand. I'd love to see them either during the Blight or at any point after! Anything that involves Kieran and co-parenting is a bonus, but you don't have to have Kieran on-screen if you prefer not.
- They are trapped together in a situation involving something magical. Is it because of Alistair's curiosity about the occult? Did Morrigan do something and underestimate the power of someone or something else? I would love it if they could bond further through a shared trial and maybe develop more overt attraction and feelings for each other.
- The Dark Ritual is one of those tropes that I really love. It covers the ~Magic Made Them Do It~/Fuck-or-Die kind of thing in an interesting way. I like the idea that they might both be consenting a bit dubiously but that it causes them to have new, confusing feelings. I would love this to be explored. Or you could even do a sort of silly thing where they encounter Magic Made Them Do It again, years later.
- One or both of them was in love with the Warden who dies due to the lack of the Dark Ritual. They find one another again and share in their grief, old or new. Alternatively, the Dark Ritual was performed and Kieran exists but he is a deceased or missing Warden's son. They find comfort in each other.
Ariane/Finn
Witch Hunt is such a short and tight little DLC narrative, but I think it is super interesting. It seems very artful, and it made me invested in Finn and Ariane. Finn is the polar opposite of someone like Anders who always wanted to be free from the Circle. He had a supportive family whom he got to see, and he liked the structure and security of it. Ariane is a much more independent and forceful character. I like how they feel like real characters but they are sort of minor characters who seem to have intriguing chemistry. Anything that would expand upon their dynamic after they part ways with the Warden would be fantastic!
- It seems like Finn is meant to have some kind of mental illness (perhaps OCD, but I am not an expert, and I'm sure they might not have the DSMV in Ferelden). I would like anything that involves Ariane learning about this and how to cope with it. Maybe she's impatient at first but learns to help him cope with the dirty, complicated, messy world a bit at a time.
- Any sort of adventure of the week fic. You could do a spooky one set during Ferelden's equivalent of Halloween (https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Calendar). Alternatively, you could do something about their perspective on later occurrences in Thedas.
- Something about Finn learning about Ariane's culture and its holidays or traditions! If they have been together for a while, maybe it has to do with how they raise a child together or they meet some children.
Female Cousland & Nathaniel Howe
The fact that one could take a Cousland recruiting Howe into the Wardens as revenge, leveling the playing field, an offer of redemption, or some combination of the three is fascinating to me. The fact that Nathaniel lives under the shadow of what his father became is interesting. I love his personality and the fact that he can learn to respect the woman whom his father took so much from. I have chosen an &, gen relationship, but if you wanted to make it a bit shippy, that's an option, too!
- I would love to know how Nathaniel copes with the reality of the Calling when he learns about it. Does he feel like the Warden foisted this upon him or does he view it as fair? How does the Warden feel about it?
- If the Warden is also the Queen, I would love for Nathaniel to meet the King with her. Whether she is the Queen or not, Nathaniel could also go and have more interaction with the Cousland family with her and Fergus.
- I would love to know more about the Warden's quest to cure the Calling. Is Nathaniel involved?
Carver Hawke/Isabela/Merrill
I know that if Hawke doesn't romance Merrill, it may be implied that Carver and Merrill develop a thing for each other. However, Isabela has some great flirtatious lines for both Merrill and Carver. I don't want to decide! Plus, I think all three of them should get to have some recurring companionship.
- Isabela persuades one or both of them into a night of casual fun, but feelings get hurt and more feelings get involved. If she fooled around with only one of them, maybe the other gets involved to try and intervene. I would just love a messy emotional story with a happy ending.
- If Carver becomes a Grey Warden, I would like it if Merrill and Isabela were involved in getting Carver's taint cured after the Hero of Ferelden succeeds in their mission. Perhaps Merrill and Carver were already a thing and Isabela provides the transportation, and it grows from there.
- Merrill takes care of herself with her blood magic, but I would love to see a story where she needs help dealing with a threat from spirits. Carver has grown up around magic but has been very cautious about it throughout his life. Isabela has seen a bit of everything and seems to throw caution to the wind. I would love to see them go on a scary misadventure together. If you want to go there, magical rituals, sex pollen, or some such could get involved.
Fenris/Male Hawke
I love how Fenris is defensive and dealing with his trauma the only way he knows how but still comes to respect Hawke in some way if Hawke just gives a damn. I like how especially Purple Hawke can really charm Fenris by just treating him like a person rather than a pity-case, even when what Hawke might say is wildly insensitive or inappropriate. I love how if they fall in love and see it through, they can't get it right for a long time but are still in love in spite of that.
- It is heavily implied that Danarius sexually abused Fenris in addition to the other abuses inherent to his enslavement. I do not want a story where sexual abuse is turned into a kink or romanticized, but I would love a story where Fenris and Hawke work through Fenris's sexual trauma in some way. Whether it has to do with more PG shows of affection or actual sex, I would like to see them discovering intimacy and whatever kinks they may have together in safety. I want to see them talking and Fenris receiving the aftercare he needs, even if it's from vanilla sex.
- If Hawke is a mage, I would love to see something about Fenris learning to trust Hawke as a person and finding a way to accept magic and mages being around him. I do not think he should have to completely erase his own fears or trauma-earned prejudices overnight, but I would like to see him learning to trust and separate magic itself from poor character and abuse of power. Particularly for this exchange, it might be appropriate to include something 'spooky' that happens as a result of magic in general or Hawke's magic which ultimately allows the two to build deeper trust.
- Tevinter sounds like a spooky, scary place, especially for a person who was enslaved by a mage. I would love it if Hawke accompanied Fenris and they worked together freeing slaves and killing slavers and such. You know, as a date.
Flemeth & Kieran & Morrigan
I absolutely love the remark Flemeth makes about Morrigan in the prologue of DA2 concerning whether or not Morrigan is her daughter or her enemy: "She does not know either," or something like that. I am fascinated by the way it seems that Flemeth does care about Morrigan but in a very jaded, dark, and self-interested way. At the same time, Morrigan has been abused and warped by the way Flemeth raised her, whether it came from a twisted sense of looking out for her or not. Then, we don't even really know what Morrigan wanted the old god's soul for, presuming Flemeth dead or at least far away for a long time, but when she actually has Kieran she determines to break the cycle and be as good a mother as she can manage to be. I love this story, and I want more of it.
- Elaborate further on what happens after Morrigan refuses to give Kieran up to Flemeth. Do they ever see Flemeth again? Do they ultimately destroy her or do they find understanding? If Flemeth is to be believed, she could never possess Morrigan's body without her consent, so she was 'never in danger from her,' but that over-simplifies things a bit, doesn't it? If she is largely to be believed, then do Morrigan and Kieran ultimately care if she is a threat to other people?
- When Kieran grows to be an older teenager or young adult, how does he relate to his heritage? Does he understand what his mother saved him from? We know that if he has/had the old god soul, he has been exposed to some spooky knowledge that no normal child has, but Morrigan chose to treat him and raise him as a normal boy anyway. Whether Flemeth appears in this narrative or she is just a part of how Morrigan was raised is up to you.
- Urthemiel, the old god soul with which Kieran can be infused because of the Dark Ritual, was the God of Beauty when the dragons were worshiped. Mythal was worshiped as the Protector, All-Mother, and goddess of love and justice. It is obvious that both these entities were twisted from what they originally were or that they were terrible manipulators all along. As far as we know, Morrigan is merely a human who is capable of magic. I would love a story that dealt with these things and how Morrigan finds her place in all of this or affects such grand figures through her existence. I'm also interested in how Kieran and Urthemiel are the same or different entities. Likewise with Flemeth and Mythal.
Addams Family (TV 1964)
No Theme, Seasonal, Spooky
I really like this show when I'm in the mood to watch something that is against the grain of my usual experience. I love how it both shows and bears its age. The aesthetic makes my still-a-little-goth heart so happy. I am very fascinated by the way it seems that there are obviously supernatural goings-on in the Addams Family household but that the show is written to give the in-universe neighbors and more pearl-clutching audience members alike a certain amount of plausible deniability. I'm aware that the show was itself based on a comic, but I don't know if this was ever more explicitly addressed in the source material. In any case, I'm super into the sort of magical realism vibe I get from it.
Gomez Addams/Morticia Addams
I love how they're just... in love and really healthily so, it would seem, in spite of all the weird that is commonplace in their lives. It's wholesome and nice to watch.
- What are Gomez and Morticia? Are they human? Vampires? Succubus and incubus? Something else I haven't even thought of? I would love to know if they have a mystical, occult, or other spooky or folkloric origin. If you decide to explore this, I would like to know how it affects their lives.
- Expand upon how they met and fell in love. What did they do before they settled down and had kids? Are they of a normal lifespan? Or did they experience centuries of life and love together before their babies came into the picture?
- For a spookier, darker fic, I would be intrigued by a story in which the "normal" townspeople became a threat, either contemporaneous with the show or at some point in the past or future if they are endowed with longer-than-normal lifespans. I would be intrigued to see how they cope with the mob-with-pitchforks. I'm sure if their kids are around they are fearsome protectors, but if it is before their kids are born or after their kids are grown and off on their own, then they would certainly still care about their family unit, right? Do they have to pack up and move on and start over? Or can a peaceful resolution be reached?
Jurassic Park Original Trilogy
No Theme, Spooky
Jurassic Park was so formative for me! It was one of the first movies I remember really drawing me into the world of speculative fiction. It also got me into score music before I knew what to call it. Rewatching Jurassic Park is one of those things that can make me feel excited and grounded at the same time. As I am becoming more settled into adulthood, I really appreciate that there is a range of character ages in these films: life doesn't end at 30, unless a dinosaur eats you. Love that. Also I'm very here for the critique of corporate/capitalist culture despite some people's best intentions, if you want to go there. The horror aspect of Jurassic Park is less the dinosaurs than the people who keep insisting on putting them there, etc.
Alan Grant/Ian Malcolm/Ellie Sattler
As the little child I was when I first watched Jurassic Park, I barely understood what romance or jealousy were. I think I understood that Malcolm was supposed to be a playboy, and the second film made this and its consequences a lot more clear. But as I have grown into an adult and been around fandom, I have matured, and I have also learned about polyamory as a solution!
- A retelling of some part of the film which leads to a polyamorous conclusion, whether it is just a lot of longing or somehow reaches a conclusion. Wilderness survival taking care of each other. If sexytimes are included, please make sure that Tim and Lex are being cared for and a safe distance away. This does not have to take place in the timeline of the first movie. It can be at any point later, too. Just something invovling wilderness survival and dinosaurs or anything else creepy and weird to survive that you want to include.
- After the first movie, I would like it if the three of them were reunited. Whether it involves dinosaurs or not, I am interested in Malcolm experiencing the growth he apparently does in the second film to become a better father. If Alan and Ellie are there to see this happen or come across him after it happens, I would love this.
- It made some kind of sense to me that Ellie married someone else in the end but that she and Alan retained an amicable and loving relationship of some kind. It was one of the first real ship-sinkings I ever experienced as a young person, though, and the fact that she sent in like the National Guard or whatever that was to come and get Alan when she did as a display of how much she still cared did things to my heart. However, I would love an AU where she didn't marry someone else. Whether it involves Alan and Ellie having an accidental baby together or Ellie having a baby in some other way which doesn't result in marriage which Alan eventually comes around to, I would just... like to see a different possibility. One thing that comes to mind is if she and Alan temporarily part ways, she and Malcolm come across each other and begin and old friends, hurt/comfort sort of affair, get pregnant, and then Malcolm has to own up to his old habits. At some point Alan gets reinvolved, and they all grow up and find something that works for them together.
