Dear Yuletide Author:
Thank you for writing for me! I am very excited to see what you come up with, and happy holiday season whatever you do or don't celebrate!
Following will be, in order: general likes, important dislikes, then some suggested prompts for each fandom I requested. After the first bit, if you like you can ctrl+f to find the fandom you want to write for me if it's too long to scroll - I have trouble with being concise, but we'll see how this goes. Remember that optional details are optional, so as long as I haven't specifically asked that you not do something, if you have a better idea or something you feel more passionate about writing, go for it. I want to see what you're excited about! That way we'll both have the most fun.
Likes: domesticity / slice of life / everyday problems, missing scenes, character study, canon-divergent what-if AUs*, action/adventure, traveling/vacations, hurt/comfort, partnership, constructive confrontation (fighting things out to positive result), realistic use of social media where appropriate
With regard to shipping, I'm okay with it happening at any point. Unresolved tension before a relationship, something that happens during one, relationship problems being faced, sexual stuff or no sexual stuff. If you choose to do sexual stuff, I don't mind how kinky it is - so long as it's safe/sane/consensual. I am also completely happy with gen / family fic.
Also, feel free to use any and all characters from my requested fandoms in addition to my requested characters as you see fit.
* About AUs: I am not usually interested in transplant whole cast into completely unrelated set of circumstances AUs (e.g., coffee shop AU). However, that doesn't mean I'm completely closed off to them. If you really want to write that go ahead, but I prefer it when certain things about the situation remain the same. Like, for example, the characters are in school or the characters are in a different time period but those with powers still have powers. The kinds of AUs I like the most, however, are "what if" AUs that spin directly from canon. "What if Character A and Character B swapped roles?" "What if Character A hadn't been in this Place on this Day?" And fix-it fics and that kind of thing. I'm open-minded, but those are just my feelings on it.
Important dislikes: character bashing (even if problems exist between characters - which is fine - I don't enjoy character bashing of anyone), graphic depictions of rape / rape as plot device, gratuitous violence (though canon typical violence is great/just fine), bloodplay, breathplay, nihilism, hopeless endings (but sad ones are okay)
Fandom-Specific Stuff
The Flash (TV 2014) Barry Allen, Iris West
I'm really captivated by their relationship dynamic already! I ship them, but I would also be happy with a fic exploring their friendship. Oh, and it can focus primarily on one or the other if you want (since they kind of have parallel, overlapping, but kind of separate lives with Barry's double life).
I'm interested by the fact that growing up in the bedroom next door to each other (but only for the second half of their childhoods) and being best friends that they kind of know the good, the bad, and the ugly about each other. I would love something in the present exploring that theme, or something from their shared past.
Another theme I'm interested in is that Iris has become interested in information-gathering through her developing interest in journalism but she is having important information kept from her. Something sort of dealing with one of the Flash's adventures from her perspective, possibly, exploring this kind of thing might be fun.
Whatever you want to do, I'm sure I'd be thrilled with it! Also, any one of the nominated characters can also be involved. The more the merrier. I am also happy if you want to include any characters you want from connected continuity (i.e., Arrow) or the rest of the D.C. universe if that would be fun to you and it helps with your story. But don't let me pressure you about scale - I'd happily read about them sharing a bowl of popcorn on the couch.
Guardians of the Galaxy (Movies) Gamora, Peter Quill
I would be equally happy with a fic that ships them or which focuses of their having a platonic close friendship! I definitely would be thrilled if you chose to include the other Guardians with them, but I'd be just as pleased with a fic about Peter and Gamora alone.
Gamora seems to have also lost her family and connection to her home when she was a child as well (at least with my understanding of the movie), so something about that particular line of thinking with regard to her connection to Peter would be interesting to me.
Surely I'm not the only person who sees Gamora and Peter as co-captains/co-parents/co-pilots with the Guardians? I'm interested in that balance and how, whether it's shippy or not, they have kind of settled into complementing one another in terms of necessary leadership of their little found family. Does it go well? Does it go poorly? Bit of both?
The co-existence of the foreign and the familiar between them. This might sound kind of given to sexy fic, but it doesn't have to be at all! It could be sexy, it could have to do with injury, or simply nonsexual exposure/nudity of some kind. But basically, Peter is a human and what is familiar to us as the audience. Gamora is an alien who has been cybernetically altered. And yet they have similar structures, similar frames, and Peter is accepting of aliens who look similar to but different from him. However, I guess I'm just fascinated by the concept of literally perceiving someone as being so much the same but so different from yourself as a reality rather than just an exercise of mind in a movie. Coming from either of them or both - how do they perceive each another?
The Great Gatsby (2013) Nick Carraway, Jay Gatsby
In high school, I started to read The Great Gatsby during a time in my life when it was extremely difficult to tolerate being in school. I don't really remember why, but I was in the swimming pool area not really participating much since I couldn't swim. It was humid, I had a headache. I didn't want to read about West Egg and East Egg and trying to remember the difference between the two. However, in retrospect a lot of the prose is really beautiful. And I love Baz Luhrmann's take on this story. I love the color and the particular way Nick is directed to give his account of the story - the process of him realizing just how Great he thought Gatsby was. I don't recall how much of that is drawn from the book itself, but I just really love this movie.
I would love just a very basic missing scene between Nick and Jay if you were so inclined. They lived next to one another for that busy time of their acquaintance, but was there another quiet moment we as the audience weren't privy to?
But I would also love to have any number of canon divergent AUs. What if Nick hadn't gone to work? What if Nick had been killed instead?
The movie sets up with pretty reasonable detail how it is that Gatsby came by his money. He could be in a lot of trouble if ever his reputation fell, and if he had been to survive, he may have found that his house kept coming up empty or that if it was filled it might not be with people he didn't mind being around. I would love to have a story about any one of these things, dealing even more with the idea of how much Nick genuinely cared about Gatsby while the rest of them saw just a symbol and mystery.
Whether they're fighting and on the run from the mob or just sitting on the dock and talking, I'd really like to have a story about them - gen or romantic.
